I know you diehard runners and cyclists are outside racking up miles despite the summer heat. Dedicated walkers are still routinely making their treks in the humidity. Well, with the heat and humidity it is especially important to take a few precautions. If you do vigorous exercise outside in the heat, there are some ways to make it more tolerable and safer for you.
Don’t forget to keep it fun, stay hydrated and remember to wear your sunscreen.

June 20, 2011 at 1:16 amWhew. Being in the south we get plenty of humidity. Best way I’ve to get around is to get exercise in just before the sun rises. It’s still humid but much better than having the sun drain any more of my energy. And I’ve also got some water handy.

July 4, 2011 at 9:28 pmI don’t have a choice, exercise happens at 0635 hours Monday through friday, 5 days a week, because I am in the U.S. Army. As for fluids, I prefer water, before and immediately after working out takes place, but during the day, when the sweat is thick, I take a water and put in an Emergen-C packet, which helps me replace more than just the water that I am sweating out.
